Sa Adoption

Welcome to Adoption Australia. The following is a little more information on what is involved in the adoption process.
In Australia, the rate of adoptions have decreased over the last 30 years. There are a number of factors that have influenced this, such as the changing attitude to single parents and the support offered to them, and easier access to birth control and abortions. However, there are now more options for those who are wanting to adopt. While adoptions of Australian born babies have decreased, inter-country adoptions have risen to almost twice the number of children locally adopted.
Local adoption usually begins with an initial screening, which then moves onto a workshop. From there you file an application and are assessed, and move on to allocation and placement. The final stage is the post adoption order.
Adopting internationally is longer process as you will need to be assessed in Australia and in the country you wish to adopt from. The adoption is usually finalised in the country that the child was adopted from, however, with some countries it is not final until the South Australian court has made an adoption order.
Our service provides detailed information on the adoption process in your state, information on adopting a child from Australia, and information on inter-country adoption. We also share with you our recommendations on what you may need to do to meet the eligibility criteria of your local state adoption department and details on the eligibility criteria from countries that are open to adoption by Australian families. We give you estimated costs and fees for the various adoption processes as well as information on international law and how this affects inter-country adoptions, and recommendations to ensure everything you do is above board and meets international law. Along with that information, we also include contact details for agencies, support groups and non-governmental organisations involved in the adoption process.
We understand that the adoption process is a special time for families and that different families have different requirements. We are here to assist you regardless of your situation.
