The
number of babies availably for adoption in Australia has decreased substantially
since it peaked in 1971 at 10,000 however inter-country adoption has risen
and now makes up 30% of all placements since 1979. It is interesting to
note some of the changes that have occurred. In the 60's and 70's around
65% of all placements were from teenage mothers now this has dropped to
around 30%. many people choose to adopt children both from within Australia and from
other countries. There are a number of reasons for this. Infertility is,
of course, the major one with one in six couples affected by this. But
also as single people who for wish to start a family and couples who would
like to give an underprivileged child from another country a better life.
Adoption can be a long a complicated process so before you begin you may
like advise on: Adoption can be wonderful thing and the joy and love a child bring cannot
be measured in time or money, however if you are unsure of the process
you could chew through both resources quickly. It is important that you
do this once and get it right the first time. If you have any questions on Adopt Baby or about other issues involved
