The adoption of children in Australia can be a difficult process. All adoptions, both with in country and overseas are done through the public office. If you are considering adopting a child then it is important to get the right advise as applications can be declined on a number of grounds and this can negatively affect other applications. Adoption in Australia has decreased substantially since it peaked in 1971 at 10,000 however inter-country adoption has risen and now makes up 30% of all placements since 1979. It is interesting to note some of the changes that have occurred. In the 60's and 70's around 65% of all placements were from teenage mothers now this has dropped to around 30%.

in 1998 there was almost twice as many children adopted form other countries than from Australia.

Adoption can be wonderful thing and the joy and love a child bring cannot be measured in time or money, however if you are unsure of the process you could chew through both resources quickly. It is important that you do this once and get it right the first time.
