You can decide this after following the process for your state, and being accepted. The process can differ from state to state, however it generally follow this seven step pattern

1) enquiry
2 )education program
3)application, assessment and approval
4 )home study, waiting and matching
5 )travel to Africa to meet and pick up child
6 )supervision and application for child to receive Australian citizenship
7 )completion – 1 year after receiving child both governments will finalise adoption

Providing a loving, safe and supportive environment for a child an underprivileged child is incredibly rewarding, but it is important to keep in mind that the system is there to place children with families and seeing that their needs are met as best as possible. Some families find this hard to understand but the joy a child can bring is well worth the effort.
