Adopting internationally can be a long an complicated process and you must meet your local Australian states requirements as well as China's. The number of Chinese children available depends of a number of factors,. China will decide based on how many can be placed within the country and how many are suitable for adoption ie: children for which all avenues of finding birth families have been exhausted. They will then allocate them to different countries for people to adopt. The process can be different for each state however it usually follows a similar seven stage process:

1) enquiry
2 )education program
3)application, assessment and approval
4 )home study, waiting and matching
5 )travel to china to meet and pick up child
6 )supervision and application for child to receive Australian citizenship
7 )completion – 1 year after receiving child both governments will finalise adoption

Providing a loving, safe and supportive environment for a child an underprivileged child is incredibly rewarding, but it is important to keep in mind that the system is there to place children with families and seeing that their needs are met as best as possible.
