Adopting an infant domestically can be a lengthy process, adoption in Australia has decreased substantially since it peaked in 1971 at 10,000 however inter-country adoption has risen and now makes up 30% of all placements since 1979. It is interesting to note some of the changes that have occurred. In the 60's and 70's around 65% of all placements were from teenage mothers now this has dropped to around 30%.
