Information on Intercountry Adoption
Welcome to Adoption Australia. The following is a little more information
on what is involved.
In
Australia the only way you can adopt is by being assessed and approved
by state authorities. The number of children adopted from overseas each
year depends on the countries offering children for adoption. Many countries
do not want to place their children overseas, preferring local adoption.
Some have made a commitment to reduce the number of children they make
available for adoption overseas. If you are considering an intercountry
adoption then you my like to have:

The adoption must meet the requirements of the Hague convention and all
avenues of finding birth parents or relatives and placing children within
their own countries, must have been explored. Providing a loving, safe
and supportive environment for a child an underprivileged child is incredibly
rewarding, but it is important to keep in mind that the system is there
to place children with families and seeing that their needs are met as
best as possible. Some families find this hard to understand but the joy
a child can bring is well worth the effort.
